- कौआ, बर्फ की धूल और हेमलॉक वृक्ष कवि के अवसादग्रस्त और दु:खद मिजाज का वर्णन करते हैं।
- उसी पेड़ पर बैठे एक कौवे ने बर्फ की धूल यानी बर्फ के छोटे-छोटे कण जो बर्फ गिरने के बाद सतह पर रह जाते हैं, कवि पर झाड़ दिए।
- इस सरल क्रिया ने कवि की मनोदशा बदल दी। उसने महसूस किया कि उसने अपने दिन का सिर्फ एक हिस्सा पछताने और दुःख में खो जाने में बर्बाद कर दिया था।

Dust of Snow Poem Literary Devices
1. Rhyme Scheme -: abab cdcd
2. Alliteration -: the occurrence of the same letter or sound at the beginning of adjacent or closely connected words.

3. Inversion -: when the structure of a sentence is changed by the poet to create rhyme, this poetic license is called inversion. In stanza 1, inversion can be seen.
4. Assonance – the prominence of a vowel sound throughout a line is called assonance. In stanza 1, line 2 – “Shook down on me” – ‘o’ sound is prominent.
5. Enjambment -: when the same sentence continues to the next line without the use of any punctuation marks, it is called enjambment. It has been used throughout the poem.
6. Metaphor -: this poetic device is used when a covert comparison is made between two different things or ideas. In this poem, the poet uses the device metaphor in the third line of stanza, when he compares the mass of snowflakes on the top of the hemlock tree with dust.
